This beauty along with any other Toucan images I post happens to be a rescue. David, the young man answering questions in the habitat said that all of the toucans in the habitat were pets that people no longer wanted to care for; with the exception of one that had been hit by a car. Still, all were rescues because the pets couldn't be released in the wild. All of Toucan images were taken at the Peace Lodge Zoo and botanical gardens in La Paz. Peace lodge is an amazing resort and guests get free admission to the zoo during regular hours as well as exclusive before and after hours access. Prior to the visit to La Paz, during a visit to Santa Elena, I was blessed to be able to see a rainbow billed toucan in the wild. However, that was during a guided night hike and I didn't take the camera for that hike. In addition during that hike I got to see a vine snake and orange knee tarantulas, yikes! I can't say I'm a fan arachnids although I do appreciate them. Have a fantastic day and happy snapping.
