Does having more stuff make you happy? Does your children having more stuff make them happy? Do your children even know who gave them what at the end of Christmas day? Do they understand what Christmas is about, why it is we celebrate? What do the holidays really mean nowadays? How much money did you spend this holiday season? Did all that money really bring your family closer together, did it make everyone "happy"? Who benefits... you, the kids, the grand-parents, the local mall, the mega-mart, the billion dollar corporations, the economy, the world? Money doesn't make happiness, presents don't solve family disputes. The sweater you got from your grandmother three years ago, you know the one you put in a drawer and never wore, yeah that one, it isn't keeping anyone warm. The video game you bought for the kids that they played one time, was that money well spent or just another thing to put under the tree. When you're standing there looking at all your loot, at all the wonderful things that you stuffed under the tree for your kids, or at the over abundance of food on the kitchen counter that you are sure to eat more than enough of... what do you think about? Do you think about the man that jumped off a building that morning because he couldn't support his family? Do you think about the family sitting over their dying child because they can't afford health care? What about the woman on a bench in the park that can't find work or the kids without parents or all the people around the world that can't even get a glass of clean water? Clean water. It's almost 2010 people, ten years past the new millennium, a decade, and how far along has the world come. We can't provide enough clean water for our people, yes I said we and I said our people. It isn't an American thing, an African thing, it isn't a democratic or republican thing, a socialist or even a communist thing. It's a human thing! This has nothing to do with religion and has everything to do with human compassion. I'll admit, I get sucked into the system like most of you, the question is how do we break out of the mold, how do we come together to make some changes? Love All. Spend Less. Give More. Please watch this. Replace the religion with your beliefs, put yourself in this story because it has nothing to do with God and everything to do with you and I. Happy Holidays!
