This dawn photo of the Philadelphia Museum of Art was taken on the Schuylkill River while I was home for Thanksgiving. I was actually photographing Boathouse Row (a many year quest) but the clouds and early light over the river and museum made for the better shot. The long exposure turned the flowing waters into an ideal leading line, guiding your eye right to the Museum. The Philadelphia Museum of Art is one of my favorite places on earth, filled with masterpieces. x remember my mom taking me there frequently, and how much I loved the old medieval armor suits, imagining the knights of legends wearing them during their exploits. Later as a young adult, I learned about Cezanne and Chagall there. It became a place to understand the interpretation of life by artists who used many media forms to express themselves. And of course, it is an architectural wonder in its own right. Having been raised as in the area, I have an illogical love of the front stairs, made famous by Sylvester Stallone in a few Rocky and Creed movies. In recent years, the yellow dolomite building has served as the subject of or the backdrop in periodic photos during my return trips home. Still, I haven't captured it quite like this before. I hope you enjoy this photo as much as I do.
