The ill-fated Comstock Ford GT40 #1000 that was driven by Canadians Bob McLean and Jean Ouellet at Sebring in 1966. After a pit stop and driver change McLean had his brakes lock up on him going into Big Bend. The car went off the pavement, hit a ditch and began a barrel roll. The car clipped a utility pole shearing it off at the base. The impact with the pole ruptured one of the fuel bladders spilling the contents. The car landed on its top a mass of flames. McLean was incinerated. The totally burnt our race car was buried on the Sebring property giving rise to the "Ghost GT40 of Sebring" legend. In the late 60's some race fans would oft repeat the story of the ghost of Bob McLean walking the track late at night near where the accident occurred.
