Traditional thinking is that Parkinson’s is a progressive and irreversible disease. We know now that this is not true, but occurs only if the usual drugs are used as treatment (carbidopa/L-dopa combinations, such as Sinemet, etc.). When using these drugs, symptoms eventually return and gradually worsen. Why is this? The reason is that the drugs currently in use do not address the underlying causes and the drugs themselves deplete the neurotransmitters, detox (methylation) pathways, and hormones. Parkinson's disease patients do have damage to the dopamine nerves of the brain, but this damage is not the primary cause of deterioration. The primary cause of deterioration is the collapse of the sulfur amino acid-neurotransmitter systems. When this depletion is reversed, the person no longer continues to deteriorate. The good news is that we now have a way to successfully restore function to all of these systems without side effects, resulting in the reversal or dramatic improvement of all Parkinson’s symptoms. We are able to achieve this by using specific amino acids that are made by our normal metabolism into the neurotransmitters, stopping the carbidopa, and supplying adequate levels of the sulfur amino acids. This approach controls nausea, prevents the depletion of all of the systems (neurotransmitters, hormones, and methylation pathways) and returns these systems back to normal function.
