There are some special moments in Flickrland, your first comment, your first favourite, but none as special as waking up in the morning, checking your photostream and realising some random stranger as written those immortal words, “ congratulations on getting in Explore” It is without doubt the best feeling in photography, that feeling continues throughout the day as your phone pings constantly as somebody else faves your photo, contacts too will come rushing in to write glowing comments and tell you how wonderful it is that your in Explore, you have indeed reached the promised land. But what if you have never been lucky enough to experience this life changing event, fortunately for you I have a few tips. Firstly lack of talent is no barrier to getting in Explore, you just need to photograph the right subject. Buses are very popular in Explore, single deckers, double deckers, school buses, red , blue, yellow any colour will do. Fortunately most of us have easy access to capturing these veichles and a quick snap on any random street will do. Similarly, trains are also popular, although you do have to be careful here, a beautiful steam train in a gorgeous setting is not going to work, no what you need to to do is photograph some bog standard boring train with a very bland background, if the lighting is as flat as a pancake then all the better. Cats and dogs are regulars in Explore, to be fair to Flickr it does include some excellent pet photography but as an inclusive organisation it also likes to include photos from less talented pet photographers, photos of cats and dogs on there beds are highly regarded by Explore. Street photography is a popular subject, Explore as taken this subject one step forward and as produced a new category of “Random street photography” this is where Explore will showcase to the world random streets of no particular interest to anyone, it may include random buildings and sometimes random people but it will always be uninteresting. Lego is a popular entrant in Explore so stealing or borrowing some Lego pieces from your children and creating some pointless object could help you get to that top table at Flickr. Landscape is probably the most popular of photographic subjects, Explore understands this and will include lots of examples, most of them are very good but it also likes to include some extremely poor examples with poor composition, poor lighting and no visual interest, despite this, these kind of photos will still accumulate lots of faves, it’s worth thinking about this kind of poor photo the next time your out in the countryside. My final tip is something very few people know about, it’s called the “Flickr Explore Golden Pass”, this pass is handed out by the Flickr hierarchy to very few photographers, if you have one of these passes it almost guarantee’s that every photo you upload will get in Explore, as can be expected these are highly desirable and sought after. It’s not widely know but these passes are available on the “Dark web”, the Dark web mustn’t be confused with surfing the internet at night time, it’s is infact an area of the internet where unsavoury people sell unsavoury things, I recently purchased a Cliff Richard album there, but Golden passes are also available. I know this because one of my contacts (WNP) recently bought one, they had immediate success by getting a couple of photos in Explore, so impressed, she lent the pass to her friend, Brian who also had immediate success. If you can get one they are worth their weight in Gold. If you’ve managed to read all this, WOW, you sure you haven’t got anything better to do, but I hope the above tips help you realise that Explore is attainable to all, no matter how poor a photographer you are. I’d just like to point out that the information above maybe be partially or wholly inaccurate at the time of writing😁😁
