The trick is to use a VERY small aperture for depth of field, manually focus to get the swarm AND background sharp, and do lots of trials juggling ISO and shutter speed to balance the mosquitoes (flash) and background (effectively, available light). Yes, it's grainy. You can't optimise for every variable! Hand held. MANY thanks to Mathias Perlet on alerting me to this being in EXPLORE! If your lens won't close down to very small apertures, get one that will! In my view this matter is the most serious limitation of even the very best point and shoot cameras. ... and mobile phones? Well, no! You need a proper camera. Lens: Sigma 50mm f/2.8 macro. Not picked up correctly in the EXIF, which I don't know how to edit. Location: Seaton Pits, Kent UK
