This year the FFF+ Group have decided to have a monthly challenge called “Freestyle On The Fifth”. A different theme chosen by a member of the group each month, and the image is to be posted on the 5th of the month. This month the theme, “make me smile” was chosen by David (DaveSPN). There are lots of things that make me smile, so I have decided to combine different things that make me smile into my photos. Creating these Playmobil scenes for different photo challenges makes me smile so much. Using the happy and bright faeries with their smiling faces and brightly coloured wings wands and costumes brings me great pleasure whenever I unpack them as I let my imagination run wild. I also smile because I think of other’s enjoyment of my photos. I sincerely hope that I have brought some colour and joy to your day and a smile to your face. Top row: Far left: The Blue Faeries are feeding the Bluebirds of Happiness on their garden the terrace of their castle by the sea. The Blue Faeries’ pet peacocks and a transient flock of blue doves are a little jealous of the special treatment the Bluebirds of Happiness are being given. The Bluebirds of Happiness must be fed well and then kissed each in turn before being sent forth on their long journey to spread joy throughout the human world. Second from the left: The Rainbow Faerie has slid down to earth on her magical rainbow, and wherever she walks, she bestows her an array of colours upon the animals and flowers. It is she who gives the rose its vermilion shade, the trees their green leaves, the sunflowers their yellow petals the fox her red coat, the canary his yellow feathers and so many more beautiful tones and hues. Third from the left: The Red Faerie knows where in the deep, dark forest to find the best red capped toadstools. The red robins and her pet wolf help guide her there. The brightly coloured red and white tops can be used to make healing potions for everything from aching backs to broken hearts. Far right: The Yellow Faerie has decided to take a stroll through her beautiful garden to admire her yellow sunflowers, yellow roses, yellow tulips and yellow daisies. She has taken her yellow basket with her so that she might gather some blooms. Whilst she enjoys herself, she is joined by her friends the yellow butterflies, yellow canaries and a yellow frog who sits on a lilypad. Middle row: Far left: The Spring Faeries busy themselves about the countryside, skipping merrily as they wake the flowers and their animal friends after the long and cold winter. The pink Spring Faerie strokes the neck and ears of two new baby fauns, whilst the green Spring Faerie greets a hedgehog and the badger family as they emerge from their burrow. And the purple Spring Faerie chats to the birds and a butterfly. All their other animal friends gather about to say hullo including rabbits, a dove, a deer and a fox. Second from the left: The faeries have decided to gather together and play for their animal companions in their magical garden. The Lilac Faerie plays the viola, the Green Faerie plays the mandolin, the Yellow Faerie plays the recorder, the Pearl Faerie plays the harp, the Orange Faerie plays the lute, the Blue Faerie plays the violin and the Pink Faerie plays the lute. What wonderful music they must be playing to attract so many wonderful woodland friends! Third from the left: The Lilac faerie, the Green Faerie and the Pink Faerie are playing with their pet pink baby dragon in a lush part of their magical faerie garden. He is a playful little baby and he wants to go flying with the faeries as they flit from flower to flower with dragonflies and butterflies. Far right: The change of seasons means that whilst the Pink and Yellow Faeries of springtime sleep, the Winter Faeries are busy making a snowy blanket to cover the forest floor and are dusting the branches with sparking spangles of snowflakes. That means it is time for their friends the foxes, hedgehogs, badgers, squirrels and the great black bear (who is really an enchanted prince) to settle down in their cosy burrows and dens for the winter. Meanwhile the silver grey fox and his friends may pad about the forest with their footsteps muffled by the thick snow cast about by the Winter Faeries. Bottom row: Far left: The Yellow Faerie has decided to take a stroll through her beautiful garden to admire her yellow sunflowers, yellow roses, yellow tulips and yellow daisies. She has taken her yellow basket with her so that she might gather some blooms. Whilst she enjoys herself, she is joined by her friends the yellow canaries, one of whom serenades her with his sweet song as he sits on her hand. Second from the left: The Orange Faerie entertains her friend the Orange Princess by conjuring up a magical feast for their pleasure. Orange crabs, pineapples, fresh oranges and orange ice cream which will be accompanied by freshly squeezed orange juice. No wonder the Orange Princess looks so delighted! Third from the left: Mummy dragon comes back to the Pink Faeries garden to collect her baby. She hopes that he hasn’t been too much trouble, but judging by the smiles on the Pink Faeries faces, I’d say that it was their pleasure: flying about the magical garden with him, playing hide-and-seek and exploring all the beauty around them. They encourage both mother and baby dragon to come back and play any time, hoping it will be tomorrow. Far right: The Blue King and Queen are celebrating the birth of a beautiful baby boy. As with any royal birth, a grand christening has been arranged and the three Blue Faeries of the land have been invited to bless the new Prince with magical gifts before the whole blue court in the blue palace. I wonder what gifts they will bestow on him? Two of the wonderful things that attract people, young and old alike, to Playmobil are their vibrant colours and the array of different items that are produced. I wanted to continue my series of faerie Playmobil tableaux, following on from the Yellow, Blue, Pink, Rainbow and Winter Faeries who have appeared in previous “Snap Happy” challenges. Playmobil is a line of toys produced by the Brandstätter Group, headquartered in Zirndorf, Germany. Production began in 1974. Playmobil began to be sold worldwide in 1975, and by 2009, approximately 2.2 billion Playmobil figures had been sold. The signature Playmobil toy is a 7.5 cm tall human figure with a particular smiling face. A wide range of accessories, buildings and vehicles, as well as many sorts of animals, are also part of the Playmobil line. Playmobil toys are produced in themed series of sets as well as individual special figures and playsets. New products and product lines developed by a 50-strong development team are introduced frequently, and older sets are discontinued. Promotional and one-off products are sometimes produced in very limited quantities. These practices have helped give rise to a sizeable community of collectors.
