The Lievekaai is a romantic place in the Patershol area of Ghent. Many weeping willows and who overshadow the water and square. Where you see now the weeping willows, many ships who where too big to enter the city used to come. They unloaded their goods here, and returned. The turning basin was filled in around 1830, because the silting of the Zwin and the trade with Damme became insignificant. On the square (now the Children's Place) were the carriages and their horses moving spaces to park carts and trolleys.
