Facebook | Twitter | Youtube | Blog I'm completely exhausted! for the past two days I've busted my ass getting ready for the Happy Camper Foundation’s Annual Ghouls Gone Wild Halloween Party. All the work ended up paying off as we really pulled off a show stopper. I couldn't of asked for a better outcome. The tweaked system from the 80's Prom Party really worked out great. We were able to keep up with the demand yet had a line from 8 till midnight. Joyce played PR/Customer Relations extraordinaire tonight. Taming the wild masses, informing them of the process and keeping them at bay was only part of her duties. I'm very happy that she was there. Shawn kept the printing running smooth and we didn't fall behind once. I am shocked that the printer ink held up. We've now printed over 200 4x6 prints and still have a good amount of ink left. I'm glad for this since ink is $70.00 I found it funny that I had worked solid from 6pm and come 9:30pm I asked Joyce to cut off the line at the enter sign. She did and a few people were giving her a hard time, saying they've been waiting for 10 minutes. I apologize for the wait but I'm only one person. Next time I'll be sure to have a catheter, beer hat and a feed bag of chips so I can work straight through the night. But since I didn't have any of those items, I took a 15 minute break. 99% of the people were pleasant, understanding and dressed great! Typing(speaking) of costumes, I have to say that my costume was amazingly comfortable! The theme of the party was insane asylum so I decided to dress as a patient. I wore my comfy rubber ducky pants, white T-shirt and a hospital gown. The only way I could have been more comfortable was if I was naked under that gown! I did think about it! Joyce went as Dorothy from the Wizard of OZ and Shawn went as Lil Bobby. Some of the best costumes of the night were Gaddafi, a Smurf gang and Dora the Explorer and Diego (adult porn edition) complete with giant nipples! Food was plentiful yet I didn't have enough time to eat more than a few bites. Jello Shots were served in big syringes! Joyce knows all about that. Diego nearly force fed her about a dozen of them. Luckily it was after the main party ended and the after party/cleanup party started. The staff and charity heads continued and I'm pretty sure Diego cleaned them out of jello shots. I did however, enjoy two ice cold Sam Adams that really hit the spot. The only issues during the night was the drive there when the rain poured SO hard that we were forced to slow down to 20mph. I was worried about the barely protected set pieces. I only had a barrier 1/2 inch piece of plywood covering the floor and wall panels. This is the first time I was happy we used foam core insulation and not drywall. the rain didn't effect the walls or paint at all. I was very relieved when we arrived and I checked everything. So it may be a bit out of order but I figure I'll go into a little detail of how we set up. When we arrived we quickly ran into the event planner Susan. She told us that we'd be setting up next to the bar, which was the BEST spot as people hang out at the bar. The total space was about 25 feet long by 15 feet wide. We were to share the space with the flip book company. I setup the tables quick so I could reserve my space. Out of the 25 feet I was originally taking up 18 feet by 15 feet. Susan saw this and figured the flip book company could move to the other side of the bar. This was great for me as the space they were using now became my lobby/viewing area. We setup two 6 foot tables in an L shape and setup. The 40inch TV for my portfolio slideshow, the 2 computers, the printer, the preview monitor set up vertical to maximize resolution and finally a whole bunch of business cards. I was pleasantly surprised when I remembered my Samsung TV has a USB port for video slideshows. This freed up a computer and reduced the complexity of the last shoot by one piece of technology. My Macbook Pro was used for tethered capture to Lightroom with Raw adjustments set to automatically be applied each time I take a picture. Joyce's Macbook was networked to my computer and was used for printing. Each final selection was exported with the logo graphic and showed up in Shawn's print cue. He then printed, slapped a label instructing people where to go to get more. The set was 8 feet wide by 4 feet deep. I had two edge lights at 10:00 and 2:00 and a beauty dish boomed directly overhead. There was no angle to the beauty dish as I wanted more dramatic lighting. Tonight would of been a great night for a grid for the beauty dish. This would of stopped light from spilling on the backdrop. I didn't have enough floor to get the subjects far enough away so the the Shutter Speed controlled the ambient light. I was pretty much working with what I had. if I had something to jack the floor up with I would of been able to set it 4 feet forward, step back a bit with the camera and use a telephoto lens to compress the space. You'd of never known of the 4 foot gap between floor and wall. Oh well, live and learn. I'm happy we had enough room to work with and with the size of the line, we needed each square foot we had. Can I improve? of course! I already know what I'll do differently next time. I met a lot of great people, had a blast, made a whole bunch of connections and did what I love to do… Great night! Thank you to each person who stepped in front of my camera. A special thanks to the people in the final photos. Lighting: AB800 Med Gridded Softbox at both 10:00 (1/2 power) & 2:00 (3/4 power) AB800 Beauty Dish w/DIffusion sock boomed directly overhead and pointing straight down. 1/4 power Triggered via Cyber syncs and commander.
