Barton who manufactured wooden souvenirs. After the turn of the 20th century he took on Ralph Spooner as a partner in order to expand into commercial and art printing. They opened a factory together at 1133 Broadway in New York City. Though they printed calendars, maps and other goods there, most of their postcards were printed as collotypes in Germany. Their output largely consisted of regional view-cards, often printed in monotones.
