Many years ago whilst still teaching, I used to have a small business on the side involving old books, coins, maps, prints and postcards. Most, but not all of my old books and maps have been sold off in the intervening years but I have still been left with boxes full of old postcards on a variety of subjects. In this lockdown, I have been sorting and clearing out a lot of things and recently opened up some of the boxes of postcards. There are only maybe a thousand or so cards at a rough estimate but maybe I should start to sell a few on eBay again. I did a lot of trade on that site in the early 2000’s but have not sold on there for years. There are quite a few that I would not sell at all and those of Sheffield and that area will stay with me. This one is an Edwardian card and as you can see it is of the Botanical Gardens, Sheffield from about 1908. Handwritten on it is the cryptic message “Rutland Park” which is an area of Sheffield a stones throw from the Gardens. I shall post some of the cards on Flickr as historically, they may prove of interest to a few of you.
