Our Daily Challenge ... The Place in the Ways ... love and rage. This is Zeppy. We adopted him from our local pet rescue group just before Christmas. He has been with us for only a short time but we are totally in love with his friendly and cheeky personality and his cleverness at learning new things. It makes me angry to think about him wandering the streets, thin and covered in fleas and looking for something to eat. I hate to think about how he was rounded up by the dog catcher and taken to the dog pound and locked up in a cage. I am very sad for him that his people didn't even try to get him back. How great that the Pet Rescue people found him and rang us because they knew we wanted to adopt a small dog. I really love that there are organisations, full of wonderful people, in Australia, and many other parts of the world, who love animals and are kind enough to care for abandoned and unwanted pets while they search for new loving homes for them. However, I get angry when I think about why they exist. Obviously there are cases where pets need new homes for legitimate reasons but many are abandoned or given up when they are not "cute" any more. Many irresponsible owners allow them to breed producing animals they cannot care for and do not want. As a result, even with organisations who help re-home pets, many beautiful animals are euthanized each year.
