This poster describes work by NGO A Rocha Uganda to introduce bio-sand water filters to remove pathogens from water. The filters consist of a container with selected sand and gravel. The water flows through the filter, which uses biological and physical processes to filter out pathogens and suspended solids. The poster sets out numerous benefits of the filters, including ease of fabrication, low maintenance requirements and costs, long life as well as reduced expenditures on medical fees and on charcoal. The challenges included slow uptake, requiring intensive monitoring to improve use. A Rocha Uganda plans roll out the use of the filters across Uganda. This poster was published by A Rocha Uganda. This poster is for display at the 11th International Conference on Community-Based Adaptation (CBA10) in Kampala, Uganda from 26-29 June 2017.
