Title/View : Holland Park: exterior view from the west Title : Holland Park Creator : Atelier PRO; ProArte Spoldzielnia Architektow Creator role : Architect Date : 1995-1998 Current location : Warsaw, Mazowieckie, Poland Description of work : Holland Park banking and office building located in Plac Trzech Krzyzy (along with the string of three apartment blocks in the park behind it) was designed by Polish-Dutch architectural team Hans van Beek (Atelier PRO) and Marek Swierczynski (ProArte). Completed in 1999, it won the City Board Prize Warsaw 2000 for a modern building that respects its historical setting. The goal was "to redesign the eastern elevation of Three Crosses Square (badly damaged during the war) and the corner of Ksiazeca Straat and connect up the expansive stretch of park along the River Vistula. [...] As to its style, this is a restrained, taut modern idiom, though one which harmonizes with the monumental buildings in the immediate vicinity, such as the free-standing neoclassical Church of St Alexander and, opposite it, the Ministry of Industry, erected during the days of Communism. The sandstone front facade of the bank is articulated vertically such that each of the three articulations works at another scale: the set-back double layer of the shops creates space for pedestrians, the regular sandstone facade forms one elevation of the square and the roof structure can be clearly seen from a great distance." (Source: www.atelierpro.nl/en/projects/115/holland-park Accessed Feb. 28, 2016.) Description of view : The building's atrium entrance is visible from plac Trzech Krzyzy [Three Crosses Square]. Lots of traffic on the street; on the sidewalk in front of the building, a woman passes by on a bicycle.
