Expansive Bromus Diandrus

Bromus diandrus dominates much of California in the open dry lower elevation settings along the coast and in the central valley region. The expansive landscape level dominance of this annual grass explains how it inhabits other settings, such as along drainage ditches and margins of lawns. The other grasses common in this setting are all introduced, and include Paspalum dilatatum (dallisgrass), Cynodon dactylon (Bermudagrass), Arundo donax (giant reed), and Bromus catharticus (rescuegrass). Cyperus difformis (variable flatsedge) is the introduced annual sedge in the center.
