Missouri Flooding—McCaskill Gets Firsthand Look and Briefing

U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill this morning got a firsthand look at flood damage across Missouri with the U.S. Coast Guard and a briefing from the Army Corps of Engineers on response and recovery efforts. “The damage this flooding has caused in our communities is heartbreaking, and we’ve got a long road ahead as recovery efforts begin,” McCaskill said. “But the Coast Guard and Army Corps, as well as our first responders and state and local officials, are mobilizing quickly to assist the families affected, not only in the days ahead, but for the long-haul—after the waters recede and rebuilding efforts begin.” McCaskill today participated in an aerial tour of flood-damaged areas led by the U.S. Coast Guard and Army Corps of Engineers, and received a briefing from Col. Anthony Mitchell, Commander of the St. Louis District of the Army Corps of Engineers. Earlier this week, she received a briefing from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, as well as the Red Cross. McCaskill has also pledged to Governor Eric Greitens her full support and assistance to work with her colleagues to secure any needed federal resources as flood waters recede and communities begin to recover. She has committed to working with Senator Blunt and the Missouri Congressional delegation in support of a disaster declaration should the Governor request one. McCaskill also released a Flood Resources Page to provide Missourians affected by the flooding with federal, state, and nonprofit resources to assist with shelter, travel, and emergency planning information.
