During the last da Sherman planted the body of his array squarely in the rear of the Con-federates and during the night of September 1st, Hoods army tutted Atlanta. The following day the city was oceupied bythe Union troops of General Slocum. The Squadron participatedin the movement of Sherman which compelled Hood to let goof Atlanta. The cavaln istantly in motion upon the front, flank and rear of the army, and had some heavy skirmishing withthe enemy. In company with other horsemen the Squadron rodeinto the city, amidst great demonstrations of rejoicing on the partot the Yankees. During the Atlanta campaign, the cavalry division to whichthe Squadron belonged was ostensibly attached to the Twenty-third corps. There was always more or less good natured chaf-fing between the two arms of the service.
